Wedding

St Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church - Wedding - OAJ Graphic

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh – Genesis 2:24

Let marriage be held in honour among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. – Hebrews 13:4

When a husband and wife are united in marriage, they no longer seem like something earthly, but rather like the image of God Himself – St John Chrysostom.

The service of Holy Matrimony is a vocational sacrament of the Orthodox Church. According to the command given by God in Genesis, the union of male and female before God is ultimately a mystical union that represents humanity’s union with God.

The call to live with a spouse-in-Christ is one that requires humility and self-sacrifice. It is considered a form of martyrdom, as each spouse is called to die for the other. The reward for all who choose this vocation is the Kingdom of God, as is that for those who choose the vocation of monasticism or singlehood.

St Paul’s offers marriage classes for those who wish to be married in the Orthodox Church.
