Saint Barbara’s Day celebration
On Saturday, December 7th, we had the privilege of attending, participating in, and serving at St. Paul’s annual Saint Barbara’s Day celebration as part of the youth committee team. This event was a beautiful collaboration between the Youth Committee, the Family Ministry, the Sunday School team, and the Arabic school, highlighting the unity within our Church community.
The celebration began with a heartfelt presentation by our Sunday School children, who reenacted the feasts of the Theotokos, leading up to the Nativity of Christ. Watching their performance was a blessing as we witnessed the younger children bring the stories to life with enthusiasm and charm, while the older children provided narration and led the chanting of festal hymns. This production was a testament not only to the children’s effort and dedication but also to the love and time invested in them by the Sunday School teachers.
Following the Sunday school presentation, the young people from our Arabic School shared their own offering: a brief yet impressive demonstration of their growing command of the Arabic language. They presented the life of St Barabara in Arabic and a song outlining the traditions relative to the feast. Their presentation was more than just an academic exercise; it was a reminder of the vital connection they maintain with their heritage and culture, even while navigating life in a Western world.
As the presentations concluded, we transitioned into a shared meal—a time of fellowship and connection. The atmosphere was filled with joy as everyone, young and old, came together to enjoy not only the food but also each other’s presence. For the children, activities such as face painting, arts and crafts, table tennis, and miniature basketball added to the fun. Yet, what stood out most was the simple beauty of being together as a church family.
This celebration was particularly special for the newly elected youth committee team, as it marked our first event working together. It was truly a blessing to serve our community, and we look forward to continuing this journey—learning, growing, and walking alongside one another in faith.
