SPYC Over 16s: Abouna Talk (About Death)
“If you die before you die, then you won’t die when you die”
For God, we leave behind our earthly desires and live to reach theosis, and we love our neighbour as we chose to love God. On the 21st of August, over 70 of our youth with this same goal in mind gathered together to celebrate the salvation Christ gave us in his Resurrection with an Abouna talk about ‘Death’, and some activities to bring us like-minded people closer together.
Upon arrival, a Mexican feast had been prepared by the youth committee. So, following a blessing of the food and for the evening, the parishioners sat down for a meal and some fellowship. Following this, to kick start the formalities of the evening, Abouna Jean expanded our knowledge on our pathway to eternal life and what that means for us Christians.
“A Christian is Invincible, no one can hurt you”
To close off the night, two icebreaker games planned out by the youth began, both with the aim of us children of God connecting and learning more about each other for the sake of building new relationships. The first game allowed us to learn a new fact about a new face, and help us find our partners for the second game, where our teamwork and collaboration were tested. It seemed that by the end of the night, each person had formed at least one new friendship.
Without God’s grace and mercy, we would not have had the opportunity to meet and learn more about the unique journeys to meet our Father, so for him we are eternally grateful. A special thanks also goes to the youth committee for organizing this successful event, and to Aboune Jean for the pleasure of his presence
